How the rule works
For every day you are inside the Schengen area, the calculator looks back 180 days. If more than 90 of those days were spent inside the area, you are over the limit. Because the window rolls forward daily, days spent long ago gradually roll back and free up capacity again.
Both past and future trips are checked: the peak usage figure is the worst case across every day, so a planned trip that would break the limit is flagged before you book.
