Slot strategy
Start 8-12 weeks out
Peak-season slots at popular consulates vanish weeks ahead. Register on the visa-centre portal early and learn when slots are released.
Learn the release pattern
Most centres release cancellations at fixed times (often weekday mornings). Watch for a week before you strike.
Cancellations are your best bet
More people reschedule than new slots appear — released slots pop up irregularly. Refresh via official channels (no bots; they can get you banned).
Book a fallback first
Grab any workable slot, then keep refreshing for an earlier one and switch. Frequent rescheduling may be rate-limited.
Check nearby consulates
Some countries allow applying outside your home district. Confirm cross-district acceptance before booking a slot elsewhere.
Paid priority as fallback
Priority / prime-time slots exist at most centres. If budget allows, that is the legitimate fast lane — far safer than slot-scalpers.
Beware slot-scalping agents
Paid "guaranteed slots" usually run bots that violate terms — accounts get banned and bookings voided, and your data is at risk.

Have your file basically ready before booking — a slot wasted on missing documents rarely comes back.
The right booking order

Choose refundable fares or a reservation without payment (most consulates accept a booking record); pick free-cancellation hotels. Zero loss on refusal.

Buy non-refundable deals after the visa
Once issued, switch to the cheap non-refundable fare — cheaper and calmer than gambling upfront.

Insurance before submitting
Schengen-style insurances must cover the application and trip period; buy before submission with planned dates.

Hold several hotels, then prune
Book multiple free-cancellation stays while plans are fluid; cancel the rest — watch each cancellation deadline.

If refused, cut losses at once
Cancel everything free of charge; the visa fee is gone, but your document set is reusable for the next application.
